Nellis AFB handles housing for Creech. The same directory tells Creech families to call the Nellis Family Housing office about its waiting list and who is eligible.
The Nellis Housing Referral Office also supports Creech personnel. It can share rental listings and help with landlord problems.

Where do Creech AFB airmen live?
Many Creech AFB airmen live in northwest Las Vegas and North Las Vegas. The Defense Department names five ZIP codes: 89143, 89166, 89131, 89085 and 89084.
That list comes from the Creech AFB housing page on MilitaryINSTALLATIONS. The reason is simple geography. Creech sits northwest of the valley along US-95, so the northwest side is the closest part of Las Vegas.
Two other options round out the map:
- Indian Springs. This community sits 4.3 miles from the base by road. It is the shortest drive by far.
- Nellis AFB housing. It is on the northeast side of the valley, 50.4 miles from Creech.

How much is 2026 BAH for Creech AFB?
Creech AFB in Nevada pays the same 2026 BAH as Nellis AFB in Las Vegas. An E-5 with dependents gets $2,070 a month, and an E-5 without dependents gets $1,737.
Here is why. The Defense Travel Management Office (the Defense Department office that sets BAH) puts Creech's ZIP code, 89018, in a housing area it calls NELLIS AFB/LAS VEGAS, NV. Its code is NV212. A housing area is simply the pay zone BAH uses.
A member assigned to permanent duty within the 50 United States, who is not furnished Government housing, is eligible for BAH, based on the member's rank, dependency status, and permanent duty station zip code.

Read the last few words again. BAH follows your duty station ZIP code, not your home ZIP code. We checked this on September 16, 2026 with the office's own 2026 BAH rate query. ZIP codes 89018, 89143 and 89191 all returned the same area and the same rates.

What does the Creech commute cost each month?
The Creech AFB commute from Las Vegas ZIP 89131 costs about $1,216 a month. That assumes 40 miles each way, 20 round trips a month, and the IRS rate of 76 cents a mile.
The IRS rate is a fair yardstick because it counts more than gas. The IRS bases it on a yearly study of the fixed and variable costs of running a car.
The IRS set the 2026 business rate at 72.5 cents a mile on December 29, 2025. It then raised it to 76 cents for miles driven on or after July 1, 2026, citing higher fuel prices. That change is Announcement 2026-11 in Internal Revenue Bulletin 2026-29.
One warning before the math. A commute is not a business trip. IRS Publication 463 says you cannot deduct commuting costs, however far you drive. We use the rate only to price a mile.
Here is the worked example for ZIP 89131. It is illustrative only and not a quote, offer, or commitment to lend.
- One way is 40.0 miles, so a round trip is 80 miles.
- Twenty round trips a month is 1,600 miles.
- At 76 cents a mile, 1,600 miles cost $1,216 a month.
- Over a year that is $14,592.
- At 48 minutes each way, it is also 32 hours a month in the car.

Two notes on the table. A ZIP code covers a wide area, so your street can move the mileage by several miles. Drive times also change with traffic and shift hours.
A note on the 76 cents. If you only count gas, your own cost per mile will be lower. The IRS rate also counts fixed costs, like the value your car loses over time, which you pay later instead of at the pump.

So is Indian Springs the obvious pick? Not always. It is a much smaller community than Las Vegas, so the choice of homes nearby is narrower. Schools, a spouse's job and medical care may still pull a family toward the valley.
The honest way to decide is to price both. Add the drive cost from the table to what each home would cost you to live in. Then pick the lower total you can live with.
Does the Creech vanpool change the math?
Yes. For Las Vegas commuters, a vanpool takes the daily Creech AFB drive off your own car. The Defense Department says many Creech airmen in northwest Las Vegas use one.
The program is the Mass Transportation Benefit Program. MilitaryINSTALLATIONS names the 432nd Mission Support Group as the contact for it at Creech.
There is a federal ceiling on this kind of help. IRS Publication 15-B caps tax-free commuter vanpool and transit benefits at $340 a month for 2026. How much of your own fare the program covers depends on your route and its rules, so ask the 432nd first.
A vanpool also changes the time math. You still ride the same miles, but you are not the one driving them.
Can you use a VA loan near Creech AFB?
Yes. If you qualify, a VA loan can help you buy a home in Indian Springs or anywhere in the Las Vegas valley. You must plan to live in it, and the home must pass the VA appraisal.
The key rule is about living there. Federal law calls it occupancy (the promise that the home will be your own residence).
Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, no loan for the purchase or construction of residential property shall be financed through the assistance of this chapter unless the veteran applicant, at the time that the veteran applies for the loan, and also at the time that the loan is closed, certifies in such form as the Secretary may require, that the veteran intends to occupy the property as the veteran's home.
